Deteching our life

For several months I have toying with the idea of deleting my facebook page. There are a number of reasons that I've been thinking of making the "plunge" and returning to life pre-social media. The main reason is that I spend to much of my time surfing around on facebook. It's a "hobby" that really I don't get anything out of. The second is some concerns I have about privacy or well the lack thereof. My mother in law told me about a coworker of hers clicking on some links that lead her back to my facebook. She recognized a picture of the kids and said "Hey aren't these your grandkids??" I've never met her coworker before so I thought if she can get back to my facebook who else can?? Kinda creepy huh? I thought so as well. The third again goes back to privacy. It seems like everytime I return home for a visit someone is upset that I didn't see them. I hate not having the time to see everyone but it's hard to fit in everyone that I know in a few days time.

After the incident with my mother in laws coworker I made the plunge and deactivated my page. I'll miss facebook. It is so easy to stay in touch and I love that about it, but perhaps for my family it is time for us to get back to the "old fashion" method of staying in touch. Phone calls, letters, emails, face to face interaction seem to all be out of style right now. It's only day 2 of no facebook and I've already noticed how much more I've accomplished and how much more time I've spent with the girls. Maybe social media isn't all it's cracked up to be. I'll report back in a couple of months about how I like my "life after facebook."

I totally just deactivated mine too! Usually I do it every few months to get a break and then get back on. Blogs are great though, did you see you can turn your blog into a book, just google that and there are websites that make books which is pretty cool.

I tried to go to your facebook to see what you and your cuties have been up to and you were gone!!!! I realized I'd bookmarked your blog a while back and had to come see if you were ok! Glad to see you are still fine!! Facebook can be time absorbing. I kept it low key by having only about 10 friends that aren't family and doing most of my reading and posting from my phone in my downtime. It actually saves me a little time - I can post a picture on there and then all the aunts, uncles and inlaws have it there and I don't have to email.

So anyway, know you were missed!! :)
